Fun Ways That The Average Person Can Benefit From Custom QR Codes Every Day

qr-code-business-cards

The QR code is a Quick Response Code. It's similar to an old-fashioned barcode or UPC code in that it can store an unlimited amount of info within a symbol, and a quick scan of that symbol reveals a wealth of info that is helpful. A QR code is better because: 1. It can be used by individuals (rather than just stores and manufacturers) to hold an unlimited amount of data, photos, and videos; 2. It can be regularly updated to reflect timely, new info; and 3. It's a quick way to get … [Read more...]

Some of the fun tips I've saved & shared on Pinterest! photo by Lynnette at TheFunTimesGuide.com

I've been sharing things on Pinterest for awhile now. If you're never heard of Pinterest, you're a big dork. -- Marshall Kirkpatrick It wasn't until recently that I decided to search the social networks (Facebook, Google Plus, and Twitter) to see what people were saying about it. I find it interesting that some guys have stated they don't feel comfortable using Pinterest. I never thought of it as a female-dominated site, but I guess it really is. It doesn't have to be … [Read more...]

Why I Love Dropbox For Sharing & Syncing Files… And You Will Too!

With Dropbox you can sync files & photos between your phone and computer, or multiple computers. photo by Johan Larsson on Flickr

I've been using Dropbox for over a year now, and I love it. I mentioned it in passing when I wrote about my favorite Android apps for Droid phone newbies. Since then, a number of my friends have signed up and most are surprised by how much they use Dropbox on a regular basis now. I'm sure there are others who may have heard about Dropbox, but aren't sure what exactly to use it for. So I thought I'd take a few minutes to explain why I like Dropbox so much and highlight some of the … [Read more...]

6 FUN Things You Can Track Online That Will Save You Time & Money

People have become obsessed with tracking everything online these days! All you have to do is log onto UPS tracking, DHL tracking, or FedEx tracking to see what I mean. The same is true with tracking packages on Amazon. These websites get millions of requests to track packages that people are waiting to receive, or that they themselves have sent. Here's one that tracks all delivery companies in one place: PackTrack! (Package Mapping is similar, as is Track Packages.) There's also a … [Read more...]

Try An Online Typing Test To Test Your Typing Speed

typewriter

According to a couple of online typing tests I tried, I type in the 100 words per minute range. (That's with no errors.) When I used to work in administrative jobs, my typing speed was "really good" (according to my employers). I went from 60 wpm to 80 wpm in no time from all the time spent at the computer. Now, after all these years of being self-employed as a full-time writer and editor, I'm at 100 wpm. That's pretty good, but still not great. If you try out your own typing speed at the … [Read more...]

Use Belarc Advisor To See Exactly What’s On (And In) Your Computer

My desktop computer is starting to lag a bit when I have a ton of programs open at once -- especially when I'm working with one of the 33,000 digital photos that I have stored on my computer (like in Photoshop or something). So I decided to have a look inside and see exactly how much memory I have, the type of RAM, the processor speed of this computer, and how many empty slots I have available for more memory. Let me tell you... there is no better (or easier) way to see every single thing … [Read more...]

Got A New Computer?… Try These FREE Programs & FUN Shortcuts

Did you recently get a new computer? If so, here are some fun programs & computer shortcuts you might want to consider... In preparation for a little "outdoor computing" from the many porches of our new (soon-to-be-built) log home, we purchased a laptop computer for me this past weekend. For those who are keeping tabs... yes, that makes a total of 5 (working) computers in our household at this point. That's right... just two adults, no children, and two dogs -- but even they haven't … [Read more...]

Mailinater: The Best FREE Disposable Email Address

If you're a regular here, then you know that I encourage everyone to have more than one e-mail address... >> One just for close friends and family (...none of those "friends" who like to send many-times-forwarded emails though). >> And another one for everything else (...including online registration forms, routine sign-up matters, and to give to friends who send a lot of "junk"). Now, there's a website that makes it a cinch to create a temporary e-mail address that's good only … [Read more...]

AVG & Trend Micro Offer The Best Anti-Virus Programs… Both Are FREE!

computer-security-by-sfslim

One of the biggest dangers of using the Internet or sending and receiving e-mail is the risk of obtaining a computer virus. Therefore, without a doubt, you must protect your computer with an anti-virus program IF your computer is used for browsing the Internet or checking e-mail. (If you simply have a stand-alone computer that is never hooked up to the Internet and is used solely for word processing or organizing data, then you are not at risk.)   … [Read more...]
