The QR code is a Quick Response Code. It's similar to an old-fashioned barcode or UPC code in that it can store an unlimited amount of info within a symbol, and a quick scan of that symbol reveals a wealth of info that is helpful. A QR code is better because: 1. It can be used by individuals (rather than just stores and manufacturers) to hold an unlimited amount of data, photos, and videos; 2. It can be regularly updated to reflect timely, new info; and 3. It's a quick way to get … [Read more...]

Try An Online Typing Test To Test Your Typing Speed

typewriter

According to a couple of online typing tests I tried, I type in the 100 words per minute range. (That's with no errors.) When I used to work in administrative jobs, my typing speed was "really good" (according to my employers). I went from 60 wpm to 80 wpm in no time from all the time spent at the computer. Now, after all these years of being self-employed as a full-time writer and editor, I'm at 100 wpm. That's pretty good, but still not great. If you try out your own typing speed at the … [Read more...]

My recent post about TV talk show hosts reminded me just how much I miss the fun folks who used to run a 24-hour cable channel called Tech TV. Yep, it was all computers all the time... for the geek in all of us. The best part is they covered topics for beginners including new computer users altogether (think: senior citizens, moms, parents, and just plain 'ol late-bloomers into the computer world) as well as topics for more advanced users of computers (like webmasters and others just starting … [Read more...]

Why I Love Pandora

Sit back, slide the headphones on and crank up the tunes! I've always considered myself a bit eclectic when it comes to music. For me, it doesn't really matter which genre. You might catch me listening to Rap, Reggae, Rock, Blues, or Bluegrass, it doesn't really matter to me. Or even Contemporary Gospel, Soul or Folk. It just depends on my mood. Maybe it has something to do with my mother weaning me on Merle Haggard and George Jones, or my dad and his brothers giving me 45RPMs (those are … [Read more...]
